Precedent studies and Diagram strategies | Kingston technology
As part of the coursework for the 2nd and 3rd year Making-Technology-Tectonics module, the first assignment, a Precedent Study introduces the integration of complex systems through the study of relevant built precedents that will enhance your understanding of the issues that will arise within your own studio projects. Working in groups within the studios students analyse an allocated precedent building, focusing on four key areas: 1. Structure 2. Fabric 3. Comfort: internal environment, building servicing 4. Sustainability
A second assignment of Strategy Diagrams, students work individually developing a series of diagrams describing the strategies for the structure and servicing of their design proposal as well its aspects of sustainable design.
As part of the portfolio, a study of a section of your studio design proposal drawn at two scales, 1:20 and 1:5, describing the integration of architectural technology in the final design project.
