Quiet Capsule | Central St Martins design-build

This design-and-build student project of a Quiet Capsule, a non-religious quiet space at CSM, provided a relaxed space for use by many different groups. Throughout the project, both pragmatic questions and questions that challenge individual beliefs and values we negotiated. The way that the team negotiated these issues was also a tremendous learning experience; in collaboration, negotiation, accessibility, and, of course, design and construction. The quiet boldness of the design is in keeping with the character of the Kings Cross.

The design carefully considered materials and lighting and the small scale of the project meant that every detail was resolved at 1:1 scale. The room had to negotiate requirements by specific groups but also offer a space for everyone to use.
